FAQs For Compliance & Plumbers / Drainlayers

How do I know if an LPL is required on an ORG or gully dish, on a property I am working on?

If it has not been specified on the consent drawings and specifications, then check on the Auckland City Council GIS map on their website.

  • In the tool bar, click on ‘Switch Theme’, and select ‘Environment’.
  • Select ‘Legend’ and tick the box next to ‘Catchments and Hydrology’.
  • Expand the menu, tick the boxes next to ‘Overland flow paths’, ‘Flood prone areas’, ‘Flood sensitive areas’ and ‘Flood plains’.

This will give an indication of which houses will require an LPL on their gully dishes. You may need to toggle the Flood plain off and on, to get a clear indication of the properties affected as it is a solid colour and blanks out anything below it.

How do I install the Leak Proof Lid?

Each LPL comes with instructions and a QR code that takes you to an installation video. Some gully traps have excess plumbing pipes coming in, so it may be necessary to alter the pipes to make everything work.

What if I come across a gully dish that is very old with no flat or riser manifolds?

We plan to develop more shapes and sizes for the flat or riser manifolds as they become apparent to us. We will also look at alternative ways of connecting the LPL, for various old ceramic gullies.

Do I have to get a plumber or drain layer to install it?

Not necessarily. Everyone can install the Leak Proof Lid, but if you’re doing it yourself, you might need plumbing help.

What if I need to alter the Leak Proof Lid for gully traps?

A plumber or an appropriately trained person needs to be involved if any alterations to the plumbing are required or if the adaptor or riser needs to be altered to allow the pipes to penetrate it. For work that is around sanitary pipes, work needs to be completed by a registered tradesperson. This is a requirement by law, and there are fines of up to $200,000 for people who do not comply.

Can I use the Leak Proof Lid on residential or commercial properties?

You can use the Leak Proof Lid on any property type that has sanitary plumbing.
