We’re excited to announce the successful first installation of our innovative Leak Proof Gully Trap Lid on 25 August 2024, at a residence on Rarangi Road in St Heliers.
This breakthrough solution was installed for a client who faced severe flooding in their backyard and downstairs apartment—an issue that caused significant damage and inconvenience.
The Challenge
The client’s property, located at the base of a long, steep driveway, had become a flood zone during heavy storms. Stormwater was supposed to follow the overland flow path, but due to the house being built on a lowered platform to comply with height restrictions, the water pooled into a 600mm deep depression. This caused a deluge of stormwater that entered the gully trap, overwhelming the sanitary sewer pump station, resulting in effluent and stormwater backing up through the shower tray and flooding the downstairs apartment—for the second time.

Our Solution
Upon investigation, we discovered that the existing gully trap was 5mm above the finished floor level (FFL)—a critical issue. In the event of a blockage, effluent would spill into the apartment rather than being contained outside. To address this, we replaced the old gully trap with a new Overflow Relief Gully (ORG) 20mm above finished ground level (FGL).

With the ORG in place, we installed our Leak Proof Lid (LPL), specifically designed to prevent stormwater from pouring into the ORG during flood events. We also utilized a boss riser to connect the 40mm plumbing pipe to the ORG, ensuring that the water seal inside the ORG is maintained to block unwanted odours from the sanitary sewer drain, keeping the living environment pleasant.
The Results
After backfilling around the new fittings, compacting the hard fill, and reinstating the cobblestones, we added a mortar bund around the ORG collar for additional protection. Finally, we installed the Leak Proof Lid.

This cutting-edge device now safeguards the property from future water damage, providing peace of mind with a solution that is as effective as it is aesthetically pleasing. The downstairs apartment is now protected, ensuring that the client can enjoy their home without the worry of recurring floods.
A Bright Future Ahead
This installation marks a significant milestone for our Leak Proof Lid, demonstrating its ability to solve real-world problems in residential settings. We’re proud to offer a product that not only addresses a critical issue but also enhances the value and safety of homes.
